Don José Gobello (1919-2013) was an Argentine writer and journalist specializing in lunfardo.
He was also a founding member and president of the Academia Porteña del Lunfardo, founded on December 21, 1962, to follow the evolution of the popular speech of Buenos Aires and revalue the cultural expressions – theater, tango, costumbrismo (about manners and customs), popular urban poetry – that have been used and they use Lunfardesque lexicon.
José Gobello was president of the Academia Porteña del Lunfardo, from 1995 until he died in 2013. The previous presidents were José Barcia, Marcos Augusto Moríningo, and Sebastián Piana.
The Academia Porteña del Lunfardo is a private institution, supported by a thousand people who pay a small annual sum to ensure its support and finance its activity.
